'Because We May' celebrates developer pricing freedom

To celebrate the platforms which allow full developer control over pricing, Because We May is a project which invites developers to heavily discount their games from May 24th to June 1st. Many developers, the majority of which are indie, are already on board. You can see which games will be discounted as part of the project on the official website.

The message is admirable, although from our point of view the best thing about the project is that there will be some awesome games available for practically no money. The project covers a number of platforms, and the discounts will be available direct from developer's websites, the iOS App Store, the Mac App Store, the Android App Store, Steam and other stores such as IndieCity and Desura. There are far too many enticing games to mention, but ones to look out for include Dungeons of Dredmor, Fieldrunners, Cave Story, Psychonauts, Jamestown, Children of Liberty and The Binding of Isaac. May 24th to June 1st is the perfect time to catch up on some indie games you may have missed.

Review: Velocity

Developer: FuturLab                Price: £3.99                Platform: Playstation minis (PS3, PS Vita and PSP)

Hype can be a dangerous thing for a videogame. I’ve been keeping a close eye on Velocity since its announcement, and I was wowed by the enticing teleportation gameplay footage, I gasped at the awesome chiptune soundtrack by Killzone composer Joris De Man, I spat out some of the beverage I was drinking in joyful surprise when I saw it had quickly become the best rated PSP game of all time on Metacritic. With my expectations well and truly heightened, if Velocity had turned out to be anything less than bloody sensational I would have been hugely disappointed, and it would have affected my judgement of the game as a whole. Thankfully, FuturLab’s latest offering doesn’t disappoint, and is one of the most refreshing games of the year so far.

Portal 2 is a Fiver!

Looks like ol' Gabe's at it again! This weekend, Portal 2 is on sale for a fiver on Steam!
Alright, actually it's £5.09. And in dollars I'm assuming it's around $8. But that's still pretty damn cheap.

Holy Trousers! The Walking Dead is Amazing!

Wacky exclamation aside, The Walking Dead may just be the greatest thing I've played in a long time!

So, I figured I'd give The Walking Dead: The Game - Episode 1 a go. I hadn't heard much about it in the lead-up to its release, other than the fact that it was going to be a point-and-click developed by Telltale. I wasn't sure how a zombie point-and-click would work out, but I was definitely glad there was no chance of it becoming a generic zombie shooter. Also, I'd somehow confused Telltale with Traveller's Tales, the makers of Matt's favourite game in the world - Crash Twinsanity - so I was a bit apprehensive. But luckily, it turned out to be brilliant!

Max Payne arrives on PSN - future Rockstar games to come?

I noticed earlier that Rockstar's Max Payne had surfaced as a PS2 Classic on the Playstation Store, and it excited me greatly. Not because I'm interested in Max Payne, but because it shows that Rockstar are on board with the PS2 Classics program, and hopefully means that there will be more games from Rockstar's PS2 heyday to arrive on PS3 soon. I'd love to see Canis Canem Edit (Bully), GTA San Andreas and Manhunt make an appearance, and would happily pay way over the odds (Max Payne is £7.99) simply for the convenience of playing them on my PS3. I'm sure I'm not alone in this, and Rockstar would be foolish not to take an opportunity to milk more money out of their last-gen games. To celebrate, here's a picture of Max Payne's stupid face.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - more of the same, except with robots

There's been a reveal trailer for COD Black Ops 2 on that there internet, and it sure looks innovative! Shooting robots instead of people!? What are you like, Treyarch, you crazy forward-thinking bastards! See it for yourself below!

In all seriousness, it'll be a decent shooter with immediately gratifying mechanics, and for many people that's enough. I think it's all summed up nicely by YouTube commenter, taalasmaa112: "Seems quite fine."

The Unfinished Swan is a PS3 exclusive paint-chucking sim

If you've been on the internet in the last couple of days, the chances are you'll have seen the new trailer for artsy PSN exclusive, The Unfinished Swan. In case you haven't, you can see it below.

What with this, the stuff by thatgamecompany and the upcoming Datura, it seems that Sony are becoming increasingly interested in tying down exclusivity deals for niche downloadable titles, which is good for beard-stroking art critics but considerably less good for Sony's chances of ever making money. It does look very pretty though.
